Reverend Susanne McKim leads our Choral Eucharist worship on this All Saints’ Sunday, November 2, 2025, with Music Director Zacharia Dekker, and Lay Reader and Intercessor Susan Schuschu. The lessons are read by Greg Finlayson (The Book of Daniel 7:1-3, 15-18) and Carol McLean (Ephesians 1:11-23). Zach cantors the verses to Psalm 149, while the congregation responds with, “Sing to the Lord a new song”, from the George Black setting. The Gospel is from Luke (6:20-31). Our hymns this Sunday: ‘Let Saints on Earth in Concert Sing’ (Common Praise #282); ‘Who Are These Like Stars Appearing’ (#281); and as Recessional, ‘Jerusalem the Golden’ (#278). During Communion the choir sings the Canticle Anthem, ‘For All the Saints’, by John Bell.
This service includes a Remembrance for Those of Our Parish who have left us over the past decade or so. As a former member of our military, Stuart Smart introduced the Sunset Ceremony, honouring those whose ‘flag’ is lowered, never to be raised again. There are three parts: The Call; the Ceremony itself when their flag is lowered; and the Carry-On for those left behind. Stuart describes the ceremony, reads the list, then plays the appropriate music on his euphonium. Thank you, Stuart, for this meaningful tribute to our own saints.
Being the first Sunday of the month there is also the Litany of Healing, when those wishing anointing come to the altar rail. All are invited to the hall for refreshments and conversation following Zach’s Postlude.
