Thank you for thinking about a wedding in our parish. Some general information may help you decide if an Anglican religious service is appropriate for you. Normally, the sacrament of Holy Matrimony is celebrated for baptized members of the parish family.
Holy Matrimony in our churches is governed by Canon 21 of the Anglican Church of Canada and by the canons and policies of this diocese. Our church buildings are places of worship with regular congregations. The Bishop, the chief pastor in this diocese, determines the matrimonial rites used and delegates authority to preside at services to clergy with licence or permission.
One party must be a baptized Christian to celebrate Holy Matrimony in an Anglican Church. If neither bride nor groom has been baptized, the matter may be referred to the Bishop for adjudication.
If you are interested in celebrating your marriage at St. John’s, please contact the church.
