Reverend Canon Stephanie Pellow leads our Choral Eucharist Service on this First Sunday of Advent, December 1, 2024, with Music Director Zacharia Dekker, and Lay Reader and Intercessor Susan Schuschu. The service begins with ‘The Lighting of the Advent Candle’. The lessons are read by Patricia Finlayson (The Book of Jeremiah 33:14-16) and Jim Hodder (The 1st Letter to the Thessalonians 3:9-13). Zach cantors the verses to Psalm 25:1-9, while the congregation responds with, “To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul,” from the George Black setting. The Gospel is from Luke (21:25-36). Our hymns this week: ‘Come, Thou Long-expected Jesus’ (Common Praise #88); ‘Lo, He Comes with Clouds Descending’ (#114); and, ‘Hail to the Lord’s Anointed’ (#101). During Communion the choir sings the Anthem, ‘Carol for Advent’, by Don Besig. Being the first Sunday of the Month there is the ‘Litany for Healing’. Those wishing anointing with oil are invited to the altar rail. All are invited to the hall for refreshments and conversation following Zach’s Postlude.
