Bishop Peter Fenty returns to lead our Choral Eucharist worship on this Harvest Sunday, October 13, 2024, with Music Director Zacharia Dekker, and Lay Reader and Intercessor Kirk Hearder. As Bishop Fenty explains, he is wearing a precautionary mask, which has the result of making his voice somewhat muffled. The lessons are read by Graham French (The Book of Joel 2:21-27) and Christine Cox (The 1st Book of Timothy 2:1-7). Zach cantors the verses to Psalm 126, while the congregation responds with, “The Lord has done great things for us,” from the George Black setting. Our hymns this week: ‘For the Fruit of All Creation’ (Common Praise #259); ‘Come, Ye Thankful People, Come’ (#262); and, ‘We Plough the Fields and Scatter’ (#258). The choir anthem, “A Simple Thanksgiving”, arranged by Joseph M. Martin (Harold Flammer Music) and sung during Communion has a couple of false starts, since Zach had attempted to record the keyboard track to sing with our illness-and-vacation-depleted choir. He resorted to playing, singing, and directing. All are invited to the hall for refreshments and conversation following Zach’s Postlude.
